How to get verified followers on X, without buying them

To get verified followers on X, post and reply where Premium subscribers already spend time, and give them a reason to follow you. You can find those conversations with X's search filter for verified accounts. Don't buy them or join exchange groups, since X's rules prohibit both. They matter mainly because X requires 500 verified followers for its creator payouts.

What "verified" means on X

A blue checkmark doesn't mean X has confirmed who someone is. X's help page says it means the account has an active Premium subscription and meets X's eligibility rules. It says plainly that the checkmark doesn't mean an account has been ID verified. In the EEA, X has stopped calling these users "verified," following a European Commission decision that X is appealing.

So a "verified follower" is effectively a follower who pays for X Premium.

How many followers do you need to get verified?

None. There's no follower requirement for the blue checkmark. According to X, you need:

Basic doesn't include a checkmark, according to the Premium page. Changing your photo, name or handle later causes a temporary loss of the checkmark while X reviews your account.

Why verified followers matter

If you don't care about payouts, this isn't a number to chase. A follower who reads and replies is more useful than a checkmark who doesn't.

Fair ways to earn them

These are our suggestions, and we can't promise results.

Find verified users in your topic. Try this search, swapping in your own topic. We ran filter:blue_verified on x.com on November 3, 2026, and it returned checkmarked accounts, but X doesn't document it on its help page, so it could change.

Our search builder can write the rest of a query, and you can add that filter yourself.

Reply where the audience pays attention. Choose people in your field whose readers include other Premium users. You can spot this by looking at who's replying. Add something useful. Here's how.

Answer verified-only threads, if you have a checkmark. Some posts limit replies to verified accounts, so those threads have fewer people competing.

Post what practitioners want. Premium subscribers often include people who use X for work. Specific, useful posts about a skill can appeal to them. Here are 30 ideas.

Build real mutual relationships. Follow people you've talked with. In July 2026, X added a boost to predicted replies among mutual follows, so these relationships can help beyond the count.

Make your profile convert. Many follows come after someone looks at your profile. Use our profile checklist.

What to avoid

X's authenticity policy prohibits all of these:

X's automation rules also say that apps claiming to get users more followers are prohibited. Penalties can include restricted reach and suspension, and account standing is a requirement for payouts. A shortcut to 500 could end up blocking the payouts it was meant to unlock.

Common questions

How do I see how many verified followers I have?

X lists eligibility details in Creator Studio, under Original Content Rewards. That's the most reliable place to check progress.

How long does it take to get 500 verified followers?

It varies too widely to estimate. Accounts in fields with many Premium users, like tech or finance, may find it easier than others.

Does having a checkmark help me get verified followers?

It can get you into verified-only threads, and X says Premium affects reply ranking. But it won't make people follow you if your replies don't add anything.

Is a gold or grey checkmark different?

Yes. X's Premium page says those badges are for businesses, governments and organizations.
