How to grow on X in 2026: a guide by problem

To grow on X, pick one topic, make your profile say it clearly, reply usefully to people in that topic every day, post one specific thing most days, and check what worked once a week. Most small accounts need months of this. Nobody can promise you a follower number, and X's own rules prohibit most of the shortcuts.

This page gives you the order, and it sends you to a focused guide for the step you're stuck on.

The order that makes sense

These steps are our advice. They're ordered so that each one makes the next work better.

1. Pick a topic. Finish this sentence: "I post about ___ for people who ___." You can post about other things, but most of your posts should fit it while you're small.

2. Fix your profile. Readers who like a reply will tap your name. They need a clear photo, a bio that says what they'll get, and a pinned post that shows your best work.

3. Reply before you post. X's published feed code removes replies from accounts a viewer doesn't follow by default, so a reply mostly reaches that thread. Those readers already care about the topic. Three to five good replies a day is a sensible start, and a private List makes it faster.

4. Post one specific thing most days. Use something you tried, measured or got wrong. X's code can lift a fresh original post from an author with 50,000 or fewer followers, but the ranking is personal, so write for one kind of reader. Here's how to write a good tweet.

5. Answer everyone who replies. It costs little and turns strangers into regulars. In July 2026, X also added a boost to predicted replies among mutual followers, so real two-way relationships matter.

6. Review once a week. Daily numbers on a small account mostly show noise. Look at your median engagement rate, who replied, and what led to a follow. Do more of what worked.

What not to do

Each of these is against X's rules or can draw its enforcement. X's authenticity policy covers the first three.

Common questions

How long does it take to grow on X?

Usually months, and there's no reliable figure for how many. It depends on your topic, your starting point and how consistently you show up. Judge your first two months by what you do each week, since you can't control who follows.

How many followers can I expect?

Nobody can honestly say. Be wary of any tool or course that promises a number.

Do I need X Premium to grow?

No. X says Premium affects reply ranking, but it doesn't publish how much. It may be worth a cheap test once you reply most days. See is X Premium worth it.

Should I post or reply first?

Reply first if you have few followers. Your posts go mostly to your followers and to whoever the feed tests them on, while a reply puts you in front of people already reading about your topic.

What's the fastest way to grow on X?

There's no safe shortcut. The biggest lever you control is spending your daily time in the right conversations, with something worth saying.

If you want help doing this each day

Repli does the planning part. Each morning, it tells you what to post and who to reply to, and it writes drafts in your voice. It's read-only, so you check each draft and post it yourself. Your first plan is free, and the demo shows a sample on an invented account.
